Anyone will be able to apply online for a Sesami User Card or can make a written request for one. The User Card stores users' accessibility requirements in a combination of four alphanumeric characters, thereby providing millions of possible combinations. It allows each user to choose the level of service he/she requires so that the user always has full control over the information that is released. Each card is custom-tailored for the individual.

The front of the card contains a country indicator and four blocks of four alphanumeric characters. Each block encodes a different piece of information:
Block 1 - Accessibility Information:
Contains data on which
facilities the user needs in order to enter and use the services within a
building.
Block 2 - Employment, Training, and Educational
Information:
Similar to an encoded C.V., this block will encompass the
user's work skills and abilities.
Block 3 - Health Information:
Includes the user's blood type,
allergy information, and any special treatments he/she may need.
Block 4 - Transportation Information:
Contains information on the
user's requirements for transportation facilities and services.
The reverse side of the card will contain the contact information for all Sesami service centres. It will also contain a magnetic strip, and can therefore be easily upgraded to incorporate SmartCard technology. All of the information is encoded in the four blocks so that it can be transmitted verbally over the telephone or as data through a computer, hand-held device or third-generation mobile.
